Neil Druckmann Hints at Future The Last of Us Projects
Neil Druckmann, the acclaimed Naughty Dog veteran renowned for his pivotal role in developing the Uncharted and The Last of Us franchises, has subtly suggested that the The Last of Us story may continue beyond its current iterations.
Original Sketches Spark Reflection—and Tease
In an Instagram post, Druckmann shared that he recently rediscovered his original concept sketches from 2003—early designs for what would evolve into The Last of Us. He described the intervening years as a “wild journey,” then added a deliberate hint about the road ahead: “Grateful for every part of it, especially the few stops that remain on the road ahead.”

Possible Interpretations of the Tease
Druckmann’s comment could refer to one—or more—of several ongoing or rumored The Last of Us initiatives:
- The upcoming HBO series Season 3, scheduled for 2027 and potentially concluding the television adaptation; Druckmann is not involved in this season.
- A new mainline The Last of Us game—Druckmann has previously hinted that a third installment remains a possibility.
- Naughty Dog’s broader development pipeline: Since 2023, the studio has had at least two games in active development, including Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and one unannounced title.
Context: Cancellation and Strategic Focus
Naughty Dog had been developing The Last of Us Online, a live-service project described internally as the studio’s most ambitious game ever. However, the project was officially canceled in 2023.
Druckmann confirmed he stepped away from HBO’s The Last of Us ahead of Season 3 to concentrate on “all the various Last of Us things I’m working on” beyond the TV series—a statement widely interpreted by fans as signaling future game development. His latest remark, while intentionally ambiguous, only reinforces that speculation—without confirming or denying any specific project.
